An Overview of the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God

The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God is a non-denominational, evangelical, biblically-based ministry that is present in over 100 countries around the world. The church was started in Brazil by Pastor Edir Macedo. Pastor Macedo was a man with a family and good, stable job, but he could not ignore God’s calling to start a church that would help the poor and neglected and lead them to the Word of God. Edir Macedo had unshakeable faith, and he knew he had to make the change and provide hope to those in need.

In the beginning the church first met at a bandstand in the Garden of Meier in Rio De Janeiro. As the church continued to grow, its meeting locations grew as well. A former funeral home in the neighborhood of Abolição in Rio was its first official church building. Later on, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God purchased a former furniture warehouse. The warehouse was remodeled and expanded so it could seat 2,000 people. The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God also expanded to other states in Brazil. Today, there is a Universal Church of the Kingdom of God in every state in Brazil.

The Universal Church of the Kingdom of God is all over the world and is involved in many global outreach programs to offer people spiritual guidance and practical support. The church has locations in the United States, Mexico, Europe, South America, Africa, and more. Overall, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God can be found in over 100 countries around the world.
